Gesture Drawing








Upper House students are learning all about drawing this year. A gesture drawing is quick and sketchy. It captures movement and character. 5th and 6th graders practice doing timed drawigns of each other.

Claude Monet and monoprints

Third and fourth graders learned about Impressionist artist Claude Monet.
They created monoprints inspired by his waterlily paintings.




GYOTAKU




Gyo= fish; Taku= impression

"The fish I caught was thiiiis big!"
Everyone has a fish tale to tell, but how doyou know how big the fish really was? In Japan, the ancient art of taking prints from fish waws called gyotaku and was developed int he 1800's to accurately document fish size. A fish is inked, then paper is pressed onto it to make a print.
